FRIENDSHIP

It's the giving and doing for somebody else,
On that, all life's splendor depends,
And the joys of this life, when you sum them all up
Are found in the making of friends.

It's the burdens you help others bear,
That make your own seen light.
It's the dangers seen for other's feet
That show you the path to right.
It's the good you do each passing day
With a heart sincere and true
That leave us with this friendship prayer;
May God befriend and bless you.

It's great to have a friend like you
As we journey through this life,
We thank you now for all you did
To encourage strength and right.
You make friends by being one,
And on your friendship we rely;
In every deed that need be done
You make the Golden Rule your guide.

For each of us builds the world he knows,
Which only himself can spoil;
And an hour of hate or an hour of shame
Can ruin a life of toil;
And though to the utmost ends of the earth
Our duty may bid us fare,
If we go with truth and friendly hearts,
We will find friends waiting there.

Just to work a little harder
For other people's good,
And to show a bit more friendship,
My friend, that's Brotherhood.
BR> Friendship--pure unselfish friendship
All through life's allotted span,
Nurtures, strengthens, widen's, lengthens
Man's affinity with man.
No task too great for him to do,
And in the doing was a smile
That aided as he carried through
The deeds that were so well worthwhile.

There's all pleasure and all of peace
In a friend or two,
And all your troubles may find release
With a friend or two;
It's in the grip of a clasping hand,
On native soil or in alien land;
But the world is made--do you understand--
Of a friend or two.

Page 19

We sometimes tire of the road so rough,
And the hill that seems so steep,
And we sometimes feel that hope is gone,
As we sit alone and weep;
And then, when our faith is burning low,
And we lose our trust in men,
Tru friends appear with a word of cheer,
And the sun comes out again.

Page 53

If you had all the land and gold
It's possible for a man to hold,
And if on top of that could claim
The greatest sum of earthly fame,
Yet had to live from day to day
Where never humans came your way,
You'd trade the gold you had to spend
To hear the greeting of a friend.

Page 73

Not in ourselves does fortune lie,
Nor in the things that gold can buy;
The words of praise that please us well
The lips of other men must tell;
And honor, on which joy depends,
Is but the verdict of our friends;
All happiness that man can know
The friends about him must bestow.

Page 99

There are no friends like old friends
And none so good and true;
We greet them when we meet them No other friends are dearer
Though born of kindred mold;
And while we prize the new ones,
We treasure most the old.

I couldn't quite decide, positively, whether or not the verses immediately above are truly part of "Friendship". My intuition tells me it is. If anyone knows for sure, please e-mail me so I can put these verses in their proper places.
